In 2001 I saw Starlight We at Carson City, Nevada. I liked her immediately. She is a good sized mare with a lovely neck, good conformation, and excellent balance. I particularly liked her beautiful, dry head with its chiseled detail and small muzzle. She also has fine, soft eyes which reflect her good disposition.

Then I learned that Starlight We’s dam was Twilite, a mare known in some circles for her quality and beauty, and also for her show wins and as dam of show winners. Twilite was an *Erros daughter and this fact increased my interest. I had tried to breed to *Erros, but had failed to get a live foal. I wanted *Erros blood because of his overall merit and his awesome trot. Additionally, I learned that Starlight We’s sire was Brace, a show winning son son of Ja Magnificat, who is still alive (in 2009) and who, in his day, was a well known show winner and a desirable sire. Ja Magnificat’s dam was Queen Margaretta, one of my all-time favorite mares.

Next I learned that Starlight We was for sale; I had not known this when I first saw her. I had not planned on buying another mare, but after considering her I found myself her very pleased new owner. This mare is of such merit, with such a gentle demeanor, and with her wonderful blood of *Erros, Twilite, and Queen Margaretta, that I feel she was a valuable addition to my breeding program.

I am retaining Starlight We’s stunning 2009 colt, Mark of Distinctionn, as a future stallion prospect for my breeding program. Therefore, with him to carry on for her, I have let Starlight We go to a a good new home (as of 2010) with Bruce and Carolyn Hammerstad in Orangevale, California.
