Fancy Crystal is nice sized mare of good conformation, type, and quality. She has a good trot and is very people friendly; she has in full her dam’s unusually sweet, cooperative, and amiable disposition.
Her dam, Night Fancy, is one of my favorite mares and is my last Night Dragon daughter. Most people who come to see my horses single Night Fancy out as one of their favorites, too.
When I saw Fancy Crystal’s sire, Bka Rashiiq, who is 100% Egyptian, during a visit to Pat Delano’s farm at Cool, California, I just knew that he would be an ideal outcross with Night Fancy, and so it has turned out. Fancy Crystal is the exact embodiment of all I hoped to get from the cross; she definitely lives up to my expectations.
When she was 7 weeks old, Fancy Crystal was somehow in a freak accident involving being cast in a corner against her paddock fence and the side of her barn. Her right hind leg was nearly severed just below the fetlock joint, with more severe cutting just above the fetlock. Major muscles and tendons were severed, but the major blood supply miraculously was not, nor was the bone. Her foot flopped uselessly behind her; all that held it onto her leg was the bone connection. Initial medical prognosis was that she could probably not be saved, but University of California Davis school of veterinary medicine was encouraged when no infection developed, and no blood circulation problems developed. Many weeks and several thousand medical expense dollars later, which time and money included excellent follow-up care at a conscientious lay-up facility, Fancy Crystal now goes entirely sound, although she has two very obvious ring scars, one above and one below the fetlock, and the fetlock itself is a bit enlarged - but not even noticeably enlarged. She runs around and plays normally, and certainly feels no restrictions. Her leg seems as strong and usable as though this terrible accident had never happened to her.
The outstanding merit of this mare, and her worthiness of being her precious dam’s extremely meritorious daughter, with her dam’s incredible disposition, make me feel lucky, indeed, that she was saved.
