This extremely high quality Night Dragon daughter was a favorite with almost everyone who knew her or saw her. She was memorable for both her individual merit and for her aura of dignified gentleness and quiet sweetness that drew people to love her.

Her disposition was absolutely the best. She was sweet, kind, tolerant, and always cooperative and easy to handle. She was sensible and reliable. She was gently affectionate.

Night Fancy, who stood 15-1 hands, stick and level, was a stretchy, reachy mare of great femininity. She was correct in conformation and balance with excellent legs and feet, and possessed of unmistakable lovely Arabian type. She was a neat, clean, dry, mare of excellent riding type, with plenty of Arabian breed character and quality. She had a nice head with big, soft, dark eyes, a particularly lovely light, clean neck, lightly arched, with a clean throat and excellent attachment of head to neck. Her neck came high out of her shoulders, as is ideal. Her withers were excellent. She had the strong loins and smooth coupling of the Aurab line. Her trot was superb.

Her second-dam was Farlanes Fancy, said by some to have been one of the most beautiful Arabian mares they had ever seen - and beautifully bred, too; her Crabbet/American pedigree included the outstanding U.S. Remount stallion Jedran among its roster of outstanding individuals. Farlane, the sire of Farlanes Fancy, was a stallion with an outstanding trot, a gorgeous head, and otherwise of unforgettable beauty. He was sired by Abu Farwa, one of the greatest American-bred Arabian sires of the 20th century.

Visiting in Canada, Janice Siders, of Diablo Vista Arabians in California, saw Farlanes Fancy and arranged to buy the aging treasure. She got her from Canada to California, but the mare died (of lung cancer!) before Mrs. Siders was able to breed a live foal from her. Mrs. Siders was heartbroken so tried to find a daughter she could buy to breed to her magnificent stallion Night Dragon, considered by many to have been one of the best sons of the internationally known Ben Rabba. Mrs. Siders found Shafarla in a sort of Canadian back yard situation and did something a breeder should never do - bought her sight unseen from her very nice owner who understood her loss of Farlanes Fancy and said he thought she would like Shafarla. Mrs. Siders held her breath until Shafarla stepped off the van in California. The mare was everything she had hoped - and others seeing her get off the van heartily agreed that Shafarla was a mare of very real quality. Her Canadian owner had been right - Mrs. Siders liked her - very much, indeed. She was able to breed Shafarla to Night Dragon and the excellent Night Fancy was the result. Mrs. Siders always felt Night Fancy was worth all the effort she made to get her on the ground.

Mrs. Siders has retained three fine daughters of Night Fancy: 2004 bay Echo in the Night (by Ray Dor Echo), 2006 gray Fancy Crystal (by Bka Rashiiq), and 2009 chestnut A Flight of Fancy (by Purple Sage). Anne Blount in Oregon has her 2003 bay daughter Fortune Smiles (by Going Steady Ah), and Van Gilder Arabians, also in Oregon, has her 2000 chestnut daughter Stoics Fancy Free (by Fv Stoic).

Night Fancy died on April 11, 2012, at age 21.
