Several people have said that they considered Sparkling Sider the best, most beautiful, and most typy daughter of the renowned sire Abu Malacar, from among those they had seen.
Abu Malacar was bred by Marjorie Van Gilder, Van Gilder Arabians, Wasco, Oregon. This is one of the longest-term ongoing Arabian studs in the United States; it was founded in the late 1940s, some 60 or so years ago (as of 2008), and is still operated by the founding family. Van Gilder Arabians has produced and still produces some outstanding and good looking quality Arabians that are widely recognized as horses that “can do,” having excelled in the show ring, on the trail, in endurance, in Arabian racing, and as family and horses suitable for children. The Van Gilder program was based heavily on old Kellogg and other old American lines, with emphasis on Kellogg-bred Abu Farwa. The shaping Van Gilder stallion was one of Abu Farwa’s best sons, Muhuli (x Follyanna, she a granddaughter of the great Farana and daughter of the important mare Follyat). In his turn, Abu Malacar was one of Muhulis best, best known, and most successful sons. Abu Malacar’s dam was a daughter of desert bred *Ghamil, imported by W. R. Hearst in 1947; this is a valuable and high quality outcross line. All of this background and heritage is of significant and meaningful value.
Sparkling Sider, measured at 15 hands, possesses a deer-like trot that is both correct and lovely to see. In her very beautiful head, outstanding conformation, good legs, and exceptional Arabian type she clearly carries the stamp of her noteworthy dam, Mescca Sultana (see information about her in this reference section).
Sparkling Sider certainly proved that unusually beautiful Arabians can also pass on exceptional athletic prowess. This mare produced three track winners: Sparkling Diamond, Sparkling Sky, and Sparkling Spirit. Of those three, the outstanding and beautiful mare Sparkling Diamond was not only a race winner, but she also produced the 12th ranking male money winner of 2000. Sparkling Sky, besides being a race winner, was also named 2004 National Champion Lightweight AERC 50 Miler, and was 2nd place in the overall AERC 50 Miler Championship, coming in only one minute behind the overall champion. Beautiful Sparkling Spirit was not just a race winner; she was also a stakes winner, and brought home $21,776 from her race career. Please see chart in section on reference mare Mescca Sultana for more details.
Sparking Sider certainly proved she is much more than just an unusually beautiful Arabian mare.
Sparkling Sider, in her old age, was owned by Robbi Pruitt of Redmond, Oregon, and last by Giselle Roman of Palm Springs, California.
Sparkling Sider was euthanized late in 2011 at age 26 due to old age related issues.
