Sparkling Diamond has been owned by Anne Blount all her life.
Anne put Sparkling Diamond on the track during 1994-1995. Her record was 7 starts (1-3-1-1), earning $4,293. In her last race Sparkling Diamond’s jockey felt her falter with a jolt, then pulled up lame. She had incurred a slab fracture of a knee (since entirely healed). Sparkling Diamond later produced as her first foal 1997 gray gelding Fast Forward Cvr (by Fast Ptrack, of Russian bloodlines) which ran in 2000-2001, starting 16 times (1-3-4-8) and earning $38,086. For more of the racing records of this line, please see the chart in the reference section under “Mescca Sultana.”
As a daughter of Sparkling Sider, Sparkling Diamond is a maternal half-sister to the young stallion Sunrise Splendor, co-owned by Janice Siders and Michelle Lindley. Aur Patriot, sire of Sparkling Diamond, was one of the best and most successful sons of Aurab. A full-brother to Aur Pride, Aur Patriot was himself a race winner and sired winners; he not only had and sired running speed, but he also had a superb trot, which he often passed on. Sparkling Diamond’s pedigree reads like a who’s who of high quality working type Arabian horses of particular merit: Her two grandsires were Aurab and Abu Malacar, and her four great-grandsires were Aulani (who used to win informal Arabian races at some of the early southern California Arabian shows), Nataf, Muhuli, and Sultan Mahtab.
Sparkling Diamond embodies good basic conformation with a strong overlay of Arabian type. She has a nice head, a lovely neck with a clean throat and natural arch, and her neck comes out of her absolutely superb shoulders nicely high, as is ideal. She has good withers and good depth through the heart. Her leg proportion is excellent, her bone, joints, and feet good.
When Betty Finke, one of the foremost writer about Arabian horses in Europe, visited the western United States in 1992 she saw the then 2 year old Sparkling Diamond. She said and later wrote that Sparkling Diamond was the best filly she saw anywhere in her travels that year (Europe, England, and the western United States) and she believed, had Sparkling Diamond been in Europe, the filly might have been able to win the title of European Champion Arabian mare in halter. (However, Sparkling Diamond was destined not for the show ring, but for racing.)
This successful mare was carefully bred to be what she is and to do what she has achieved.
