Janice Siders bought Indian Pepper in 2003.

Indian Pepper was bred by Sharon Pardo, a long time friend of both Janice Siders and Carol Mulder. For many years Sharon kept and bred a small and very select herd of Crabbet/American Arabians, first in California and then in Sisters, Oregon. Her foundation mare was the very beautiful and extremely high quality Kellogg-bred Gazlowa, by Farlowa, one of the best sons of the great Abu Farwa. Farlowa’s dam was a daughter of the great athlete and sire, Farana. Gazlowa was out of Gazya, she by Sikin, full-brother to Farana, and x Rabiyat, one of the best trotting Arabians of all time and a stellar broodmare as well. Most of Sharon’s select band of horses traced to Gazlowa.

Indian Pepper’s sire, Rabba Baron, was one of the last breeding sons of Ben Rabba. His dam was Bay-Karel, a very good daughter of National Champion Stallion (in halter) Bay-Abi. Bay-Karel’s dam was Gazlowa. Rabba Baron was a beautiful, stylish, and well conformed horse with perfect legs and feet. He also had a natural amble which covers the ground more rapidly than a walk and is very easy to ride, as well as easy on the horse. Rabba Baron had done a little cattle work in his life, helping to rope and hold calves for branding, and he took well to this, as well as to trail riding. During the last years of his life Rabba Baron was owned by Angela Lewis at Susanville, California.

Indian Pepper’s dam, Mountain Rosedawn, was also bred by Sharon Pardo and was also owned by Angela Lewis. Many people consider Mountain Rosedawn one of the two best daughters of Abu Malacar, a Muhuli (by Abu Farwa) son who is an important name in some endurance and racing circles. Mountain Rosedawn’s dam, Estey Dawn, bred by Sharon Pardo, was a mare of extraordinary merit with absolutely superior hindquarters. Estey Dawn was a granddaughter of Sharon’s Gazlowa; thus Indian Pepper is double Gazlowa.

Due to her health, Sharon had to disperse her little band of high quality horses a few years ago and they unfortunately got widely scattered. Thus, having the opportunity to acquire Indian Pepper was a great thing for Janice.

When Australian friends visited in 1998 they saw then 2 year old Indian Peppers at Sharon’s place in Sisters. They said that Indian Pepper was one of their favorite fillies of all those they saw on this trip to the western U.S. She was always a favorite of Janice’s, as well.

Indian Pepper is a rich and somewhat different color of chestnut. Her coat sometimes seems to have a burgundy shade to it, with a coppery sheen, and her mane has a few silver hairs. She is short backed and deep bodied, and has excellent legs and feet. She also has a very good trot.

Because Janice Siders is retaining two gorgeous daughters of Indian Pepper (2004 Red Hott Pepper and 2006 Hott Fudge Sundae), the mare was sold in September 2006 to Angela Lewis, Susanville, California. Were it not for having two such fine daughters to keep, Indian Pepper would never have been sold.
